possibly? although it changed on beforus because of feferi? and feferi always had a desire to re-define culling, it’s just that she could only really act it out on beforus when she was finally empress
i would say that most empresses would keep the same definition? it works in their favour in the huge game of politics between land dwellers and sea dwellers?? feferi just seemed to have a personal strength that allowed her to want a whole social revolution. she doesn’t appear to have been brought up as a ‘typical’ heiress
i guess it just depends on the trolls. also, it’s more likely that an empress seeking a different version of culling would be killed immediately by the current heiress. it’s probably just that hic lost contact with her lusus so she was never able to actually do anything about feferi, or feferi was too young in alternia to have her opinions heard/matter to be killed
the point is that culling could have been re-defined on alternia but feferi never lived long enough for us to know what would have happened with her 'extreme’ views. so it’s probably dependant on the empress, not universe.

jade ascended through the usual technique–meaning she needed her dreamself. her dead dreamself was fused with her sprite, meaning she had to use the sprite to ascend because that was where her dreamself was
davesprite wasn’t formed with dave’s dreamself, so when dave ascended it didn’t affect davesprite
basically, davesprite comes from a dead human dave and jadesprite comes from a dead dreamself dave–dreamselfs are used for the ‘usual’ method of ascension
