jade ascended through the usual technique–meaning she needed her dreamself. her dead dreamself was fused with her sprite, meaning she had to use the sprite to ascend because that was where her dreamself was

davesprite wasn’t formed with dave’s dreamself, so when dave ascended it didn’t affect davesprite

basically, davesprite comes from a dead human dave and jadesprite comes from a dead dreamself dave–dreamselfs are used for the ‘usual’ method of ascension 

at the end of the conversation he reaffirms his position as humankin, even if to the audience it’s mostly perceived that he’s faking it
