I'm the one with the question about exiles communicating-- that makes sense, but you didn't answer my question. How do THE EXILES "hear" the players?

anyway, it seems the exiles are unable to hear the players in any way. they gauge the player’s reactions to what they say, or some cases (such as terezi’s), the player will write out their response for the exile to read.

Sollux's current body is blind because he was blinded with that body, He died entering his land, revived as the Derse dream self, got blinded, became half dead, and then became fully alive and blinded again

Anonymousdreamselves may or may not keep the disabilities of the original body. for example, vriska’s dreamself doesn’t have a robotic arm and is not at all blind, while terezi’s dreamself remains blind, as per her wishes. it’s quite likely that sollux wanted his dreamself to remain blind because when he went blind, he also stopped hearing the voices of the doomed. he may have worried that regaining his sight would have also meant hearing those voices again - although that much is only speculation.
