I was talking with a buddy about the Mage class, and we figured it for a neutral class that has a give & take relationship with manipulation. Not a passive or active, but somewhere in the middle. The more they're able to manipulate their aspect, the more easily they are influenced(manipulated) themselves. At least that's my guess. manipulation makes sense to me because otherwise it’s way too close to seer, and creation is weird too because it doesn’t exactly fit, and it would fall too closely to witches
but i really like your explanation of it, i think i might go with that until the comic can expand on it more!
if you sent an ask about god tiers explanations, then it’s under the cut. i’m mostly just going off of canon evidence so they’re not very creative? most are just literal meanings…
EDIT: added third batch, they also aren’t in order and sometimes i slip them in-between – like i tried to keep the maid questions close together – so check all the way through for your answer!

About the Mage of Doom ask, didn't Mituna (Heir of Doom, I think?) have prophetic visions as well, before his accident? Prophetic doom vision stuff seems more of a doom aspect trait in general, or mabye for specific hero of doom classes, is how I see it. Thoughts? fUCk i totally forgot about mituna!! there’s way too many trolls involved…
but yes that would make much more sense, as it can’t be due to his class. so it would appear doom means ‘prophecies of a groups failing and/or destruction’??
which then brings us round in a full circle about what mage actually does – and what makes it different from other classes? eh i honestly don’t think you can draw a conclusive definition from sollux and meulin, seeing as now they have nothing in common that isn’t shared by another character of a different class and/or aspect
On the topic of self-diagnosing classes, two things: One, my friend, who is just getting into HomeStuck, learned about the classes, and self-diagnosed as a Prince of Hope. He's an Aquarius. Two, I personally believe having someone who knows you fairly well and is well-versed in HomeStuck would be better for diagnosing your class/aspect than self-diagnosing. nsdkn i keep having to come back upstairs for more paper and then theres more questions @@
well i’m not sure what your point for the first question is… unless it’s that people can be biased towards themselves and make the wrong choices based on characters? in that case i agree with you and the influx of knights of time or bards of rage could be overwhelming!!
but i think self-diagnosing can be better if you actively try to be unbiased. i myself have the knight of doom, which i think fits as overcoming my own weakness. using the failures and ‘dooms’ of a group as a weapon to actively change things for the better? well that would force me to get out of a slump of self-pity and help everyone else out: which i feel would be beneficial for me! but would my friends openly admit to me that i pity myself too much? haha as much as i love them, i don’t think they would!!
really it depends on your maturity as a person and what you honestly thing your strong/weak points are! all methods have strengths and weaknesses, you just have to pick the one you think most applies to yourself while being most unbiased – there is no right or wrong way to find your title
i feel like i'm the only one who self-diagnosed my god tier title instead of using the test, based on a lot of background research and stuff. the thing is the test gave me a non-canon title and so i tried to give myself the closest canon one i could while still basing it mostly off my own research?? gahh i don't know where i was going with this but tl;dr does it still count? okay i’ll quickly answer this one, then i’m gone until tonight. i absolutely love the title tests, don’t get me wrong here! i think the time and effort into them is fantastic and hundreds of people use it!
but to get a role that suits you best? i think if you understand all the aspects and classes, then deciding your own is best.
god tiers are meant to help you develop and grow as a person, they either help your strong points or help you work on your weak points. vriska is a great example! she blamed everything on bad luck, but being the thief of light meant she had all the luck – so what could she blame it on then? she had to grow to take the responsibility of her own actions. would a personality test know that vriska acted this way? possibly, but a measure for such a specific weakness would probably not be accounted for.
the title test gives you the best results compared to questions on a personality test – which aren’t always accurate due to numerous variables – or sometimes the titles just don’t work.
so yes, i do feel that giving yourself your own title through analysis of yourself would give most accurate results – assuming you can stay unbiased.
Meulin said during her scene with Meenah in Meenahbound 2 she had worked miracles with her ships, which by my guess, implies that she actually makes her ships sail, or creating heart. (Or spades, or diamonds, or clubs, whatever.) That's what I mean by that. yes i agree with you there, that actually does suggest she had an active hand in it…
i’ll go back through her conversation with meenah to get context of it, but a very curious point!
Are seers active of passive? a seer is a passive class
I believe that a knight does not fight their aspect nor protect it but use it as a weapon. Dave used his time powers in [s] Accelerate to fight the tougher enemies of his land and Aradia used hers as a weapon to stop Jack in [s]Wake.
Anonymous
well first of all, aradia is a maid.. which is slightly confusing here. but on the topic of aradia, she has stated
ARADIA: the knight of time is not necessarily the tactician
ARADIA: he is a powerful warrior class which exploits the flow of time as a weapon
but the problem here is that while dave does use time to fight other imps and gain skills in the process, what does dave actually spend most of his time doing?
dave constantly protects everyone by using time as a weapon. he’s saved jade, john, rose and himself; which is a protective use of his weapon. while karkat’s blood aspect is a vague, karkat has always aimed to protect his friends. using blood as the aspect of unity, then karkat uses unity as a weapon to protect with gamzee.
the point is that while weaponizing time is a huge part of it, the way you then use that weapon seems to count as well – and both karkat and dave seem to exploit their aspects as a weapon to protect. (i say seem because blood’s role is still unclear)
and inevitably, if you pick up a weapon – you’re using it to protect.
im sorry if this bothers you since your stance on mages seems to be a little rocky, but im just curious as to - according to your theories and rambles - what a Mage of Doom would do. Since that's Sollux, and I also (via the god tier quiz with the wing types) am a Mage of Doom.

ok i’ll answer this one because i pulled my thoughts together a little better, but after this i would suggest you follow the anon’s advice because my thoughts are very haphazard and probably less helpful!
from what we see of sollux, he is manipulated by the dead, to hear voices of the doomed. this does slightly pan into seer territory though, but could be separated by my second point
another thing about sollux is he made prophecies – which probably became self-fulfilling. a mage could then be more distinct from a seer by making prophecies based on the knowledge their aspect gives them. whether the prophecies are destined to come true, i’m not sure of. but this would correlate with meulin being an excellent shipper too.
so in whole, i think???? a mage of doom would hear voices of the dead to gain knowledge of how their session would be doomed, and would then make prophecies based on that knowledge?
auhguahuhauha
i think they mean from "forcing" relationships she ships them, and she wants to create a relationship i guess??? i think i worded that weird
Anonymous
oh no you worded it fine! what i’m confused about is uh, if there’s evidence of meulin actually forcing a relationship.
aranea’s explanation just made it sound as if meulin is very skilled at guessing and predicting relationships – rather then creating them? if the former is the case, then it would correlate with the ‘vessel’/'manipulation’ kind of theory.. i guess i’d have to look up traditional mage roles and see if any apply!
however if she has created a relationship, then i would say it’s stronger evidence for the 'creation’ theory; you would just have to find evidence that fits for sollux too.
