Im sorry, this is just one of those late night whats going on questions, but when the kids prototype their gaurdians or whatever, it was something that was once living, does it ever that when youre prototyping that it had to be a living thing? this page says:

that’s just sollux being a dork, they don’t really have much of a connection in canon. sollux isn’t even dave’s (or anyone’s) patron troll, so

yeah true, but terezi also lived the beginning of her life in the brooding caves surrounded by other trolls, while dirk was a lone little bab from day 1

i think it was probably mostly because his lusus was aquatic and he was not Anonymous
