many people believe that the kids are a-racial, meaning that they can be whatever race we desire them to be. they aren’t white as in caucasian, but white as in ‘blank’. surely, this should mean that if all character are ‘blank’, then hussie should not project his own headcanons onto them—otherwise he ruins the effect he was going after in the first place. this essentially means, that for the character to be whatever race we wish for them to be, race should never be used or mentioned about them or their relatives.

you see, these characters have features that can be defined to fill in the gaps of their ‘blankness’. from these two pieces alone, dave looks to be a white kid with ginger hair. or a white kid with blonde hair. that’s not very blank at all.

you see, what a lot of people feel, is that hussie used ‘blankness’ to get out of accepting that his representation sucks. if he had truly felt that the kids were blank, then what would it matter what the fans want dave’s hair to be? they have the ability to choose because, isn’t the ‘blankness’ for everyone?? not the majority? if they are truly blank, then why is bro white?

i consider the kids a-racial. the only race they obviously definitely arent is black.

(i’m p. sure the question itself is racist? i have no idea what was going through their mind when they asked that. i’m not even sure i understand it.) firstly, the kids can’t be that a-racial if bro is white. secondly.. why would you ever say that second comment? why would you even joke about it? why would you think that you can joke about representation when you have none? it makes me so sad… doesn’t it make you sad? doesn’t it make you angry? doesn’t even a little part of you think ‘that’s not a funny joke to make. there are people in this fandom who were bullied over headcanons that aren’t white. there are people who will take this out of context and use it as a way to oppress people further’.

hussie is a man who has a great influence, and he is responsible for what he types and what he says. he knows the influence that he has, and he knows that people have pointed these issues out to him. his responses in reply have always been childish.

1. he glitched out the word ‘white’ in john’s description when he was called out on it. instead of reflecting on why people were saying it didn’t match up with the a-racial stand point, it’s been left in and later un-glitched.
2. when the issue kicked off again, hussie dedicated himself to torturing us with a month of caucasian—where he mocked and belittled those of us who felt that the kids were being white-washed. his apology afterwards seemed to be along the lines of ‘i’m sorry this upset you but i’m not going to acknowledge why you were upset in the first place’.
3. the caucasian joke was only removed because people were using it as an excuse to bully each other. it wasn’t over the fact it was problematic for racist reasons.
4. i believe—the glitching was so long ago—that hussie called his own behaviour childish on both these occasions, yet did nothing to rectify it.
5. we have no mature response to any of our worries about representation in homestuck. only being referred to as the ‘tumblr sjws’ over twitter.

in fact, hussie has deleted the post regarding it from his blog. and the other post.

mod a addendum: the bottom line is, you can’t say whatever you want and then pull back when you get backlash and be like, “haha, I was just joking, losers!”

you have to take responsibility for the things that you’ve done/said and actually making a change instead of, well, whatever hussie keeps doing
