easiest way to do this is by reverse google image searching. you do this by right hand clicking the picture in chrome and clicking ‘search google for this image’. you can also drag images into google’s search bar, or upload them. (ignoring the fact this is clearly by ikimaru, lets pretend there is no credit on the image itself)
sometimes it works, sometimes you just get even more unsourced bullshit.
usually, most pieces are from tumblr. go up to the search bar and add ‘tumblr’, usually ‘karezi’ or ‘homestuck’ will be auto-added by google. usually you can find a url that links to someone’s blog, where they have reblogged it. you can follow the sources on tumblr until you get to the original post. but sometimes, you can’t.
so then, mspabooru is your best friend. 99% of the time, you want to search the adorabloodthirstytag. if that doesnt work, sometimes ‘karkat terezi’ works or ‘karkat terezi shipping’. tagging can be inconsistent on the site.
from here, you can do a couple of things. you can scroll through every page until you see it, or add in more tags to make it relevant.
for example, the picture i image searched doesn’t have scalemates in it. so i can search for ‘adorabloodthirsty -scalemates’ to remove entries with scalemates. i can also add ‘chalk’. tagging isn’t always correct or the same standard, so play about with stuff until you find it.
more great ones to remove are ‘dragon_cape’ and ‘legislacerator_suit’
so searching for ‘adorabloodthirsty -scalemates chalk’ gives me:
click on it!
there you go, we found the original post!
now how about instead of reposting the art without a source, you just reblog it straight from ikimaru—huh?
and this process might look complicated, but it takes about 3 minutes at most, 3 seconds at least. if you don’t have 3 minutes to spare to source the original artist/reblog from them directly, don’t post the picture.
