But then, homosexuality in a society where bisexuality is the norm is kind of a different thing. Rather than being a swapped preference, it is a more exacting preference. Somewhat like a fetish for a particular gender. When Karkat was talking to John about it, he indicated trolls don’t even have a word for the orientation. It’s not something that appears to have any cultural significance to them. Which might seem odd, but then, they’re aliens. Maybe a way to view it is how we view people with more exacting preferences, like certain fetishists. We don’t actually have common words to describe most people like that, and their presence doesn’t have nearly the same social ramifications which homosexuality does. Humans seem to make a very big deal out of homosexuality, while treating other forms of preference as barely worth noting. When Karkat was <3< hitting on John, the reasonable human response was to say “I am not a homosexual.” But the troll response would be more like “Sorry, not interested,” without invoking orientation. Very much like a guy with a fat fetish isn’t too likely to reject a thin girl by saying “Sorry, I am just this HUGE chubby chaser, so I must decline.

however this seems to be more about quadrants involved in reproduction, so i’d feel free to go by your own headcanons

we’ve probably posted something similar before.. my opinion and advice on fantrolls hasn’t changed at all in the last two years so overlap is certain 

talk sprites have always been a massive part of gaming! or at least, rpgs and dating sims. they’re not always used by the same name and they’re often more artwork than pixels, but it is very much an idea hussie took from gaming!

dangan ronpa is a good example, mostly because it’s the only one i can think of right now. oh, persona does as well!

all you need is a theme and then you have so many opportunities to make something!

when i had my fantroll, i just started off with the word kleptomaniac. i thus ended up giving her a magpie for a lusus, and had her hoard worthless items. i carried on the hoarding theme and made her justification for her actions about ‘needing it someday’. from there i gave her an impatient personality, from a lack of wanting to be kept out of the loop and not knowing what is going to happen someday, and thus what she’ll need someday! of course she needed another interest, so i just took cooking. she follows scottish-style cooking because i think it’s the most simplistic and probably most applicable to the resources trolls have, and then gave her a blunt/cutting personality–a sort of pun on a chef’s knife, which is her weapon–which then made full circle and complimented the impatient aspect very well

i mean,, basically the idea is that you can just take one idea and let it grow? you could probably take anything and base a fantroll around it, and with two ideas you’ve pretty much got the basis for a well fleshed out troll? there’s not really a need to go take ideas from other people when there is so much you can do, although maybe it’s the choice and variety that makes it so hard to pin point one thing?

perhaps looking at what you think would be fun to roleplay, or what your favourite words or animals are. start with ideas/words you think are fun, then narrow them down until you can link them together to start basing a personality off of them.
